Hi! My name is Marissa McCarty and I am currently a 5th grade teacher at Canton College Preparatory School, a part of the I CAN Schools Network. I have a Bachelors degree in Middle Childhood Education (4-9) with concentrations in Mathematics and Social Studies.
As a graduate, I would love to teach either 8th grade Social Studies at a middle school that works with interdisciplinary units or middle school math. I would love to work on a team of teachers and be able to connect what students are learning to their everyday lives and the other content areas. My dream would be to teach 8th grade Government and to have students work on a classroom government that they could evolve and grow throughout the year. I would love to teach mathematics as well. My brain is a very numbers oriented; I like to know that in math there is always a right and a wrong answer.
I graduated from Massillon Washington High school in 2007 with an Honors Diploma. During high school I was involved in a program called Obie Friends. As an Obie Friend I attended 7th grade Science classrooms to teach them to say no to drugs and alcohol. This is when I first fell in love with 7th grade students.
Since being accepting to the College of Education I have had several opportunities to work with students, not only inside my licensure area but in other areas as well. I have worked with students in both urban and rural settings. I have been able to work with students in all subject areas. I am currently working on my student teaching at Pfeiffer Intermediate School and Edison Middle School which are part of the Perry Local School District in Canton, Oh. I hope to gain knowledge of what a classroom is like and what it is like to work at a middle school for the entire length of a day.
Upon graduation from the University of Akron I hope to stay close to home, teaching in a school that will let me be close to my family. I am looking to start a family of my own and would be looking for a place to settle down. I will also be working towards my Masters Degree so that I may further my education and keep in touch with all the most recent news in the teaching field.
Bio-Poem
Marissa
Intelligent, fun, loving, driven, strong willed, caring and creative
Daughter of Louise and Gary Diuk
Sister of Matthew Diuk
Lover of scrapbooking, watching movies, reading
Who feels joy when she is around family, scared when thinking about the future, and relaxed when reading a good book
Who needs love, support from family, and lots of close friends
Who gives love, compassion and encouragement
Who fears life after graduation, not being good enough and the loss of those closest to her
Who would like to see the world, herself become a successful teacher and happy future family
Who shares her secrets, feelings and love with those around her
Who is a 5th grade teacher, a brighter future and loving fiance
